Compare of serum trace elements in different age groups of male adults

  •   Objective   To understand the difference and variety of serum zinc, copper, manganese, lead and cadmium among different age groups of male adults in six cities, in China.
Methods   Men, who lived in Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Taiyuan, Guiyang, Hangzhou and Qingdao more than 10 years, were recruited from Dec 2001 to Dec 2002.Questionnaire survey and serum microelement's test were both conducted.Univariate and mutilvariable analyses were combined to explore the influence of age on serum trace elements.
Results   There were some differences of trace elements between Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Taiyuan, Guiyang, Hangzhou and Qingdao. Moreover, age may has some influence on serum trace elements, and the contents of serum copper, manganese, lead and cadmium raised by aging.
Conclusion   Serum trace elements had regional differences, and the level of serum copper, manganese, lead and cadmium increased with the age group's added among male adults of 20 to 59 years old in six cities, in China.
