Effect of boron exposure on human semen quality

  •   Objective   To study the effect of boron exposure on human sperm quality.
Methods   Boron exposure group, community control group; background control group were selected, and semen specimens were sampled.Cluster analysis was performed to merge 11 semen indices to form comprehensive indices, which not only decreased the number of variables, but also could reflect most information of original semen indices. The effect of boron exposure on several new indices was that of boron exposure on human semen quliaty.
Results   There were four comprehensive indices, which represented sperm quantity, motility, speed of the motile cells, and the departure of the cell path/track from a straight line, sespectively. There were no significant difference on four comprehensive indices among boron exposure group, community-control group and background control group.
Conclusion   Under the current daily boron exposure dose, 13~430 mg/d, no negative reproductive effects on male workers are found as to semen quality
