Effectiveness evaluation on school intervention activities about tobacco control activities in six cities

  •   Objective   To evaluate the effectiveness of school intervention activities about tobacco control, ana to provide scientific evidence forexplor ing strategies and activities on school tobacco control.
      Methods   One-year intervention activities were developed and conducted in 15 primary and middle school in six cities in 2003.The baseline survey and follow-up survey on knowledge, attitude and behavior about tobacco and health were conducted in students and school staffs in the inter vention and the control schools.
      Results   The rates of knowledge and correct attitude about tobacco and health of students and school staffs in the intervention schools were greatly improved.The rate of students.attempt smoking went down, especially among the intervention middle school students, it went down 10.9% less than 2.28% of the control middle school students.The rate of current smoking of school staffs decreased significantly, especially male staffs and those less than 35 years old.
      Conclusion   The school intervention activit ies on tobacco control had positive effectiveness on the change of students and school staffs.knowledge, attitude and behavior about tobacco and health.It provided a preferably template for future school tobacco control.
