Survey of HIV/AIDS knowledge, attitude and behavior among middle school students in Deqing county

  •   Objective   To investigate the HIV/AIDS know ledge, attitude and behav ior among the middle schoo l students and provide scientific basis for HIV/AIDS health education.
      Methods   The survey was carr ied out on thirty-three classes of students through cluster sampling from 4 middle schools.All students were interview ed with anonymous uniform questionnaires by means of self-administration in the Deqing, Zhejiang province.
      Results   Total of 1726 students was interviewed.The results sho wed that the awareness rate of HIVbasic knowledge was 60.9%~91.9%.The awareness rate of HIVtr ansmission route was 22.0%~93.1%.The attitude to HIV/AIDS of most students was corr ect and the discr imination to AIDS among them was not obvious.The awareness rate of the middle school students in the city was higher than that in the country(P < 0.05).Discrimination was less severe among the students in the high middle school or in the city.
      Conclusion   Currently middle school students know quite a lot of information on HIV/AIDS, and HIV/AIDS health education in the school is an effectiv e method to help students to know more about HIV/AIDS.HIV/AIDS health education should be developed more and deeper to improve the awareness, technology and the skill of self-protection.
