Effects of lycopene on oxidative injury in lungs of acute lung injury rats

  •   Objective   To investigate whether lycopene against oxidative injury in lungs of rat lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury(ALI).
Methods   Rats were divided into five groups at random.Three groups were gastric incubated with lycopene, other groups(ALI model control group and control group)were treated with solvent of lycopene.35 days later, control group were given physiological saline, ALI model group and lycopene administrated were injected LPS6 mg(kg·bw)to induced ALI.After LPS or physiological saline challenge 1, 4, 6 h, all the rats were killed in order to measure the actives of Superoxide Dismutase(SOD), Glutat hione Peroxidase(GSH-PX), Malondialdehyde(MDA)in rat lungs.
Results   Compared with ALI model rats, MDA were decreased significantly(P < 0.01)in the groups of lycopene administrated, SOD were little increased, while GSH-PX were increased in ALI model group and lycopene administrated groups compared with control group.
Conclusion   Lycopene might protect oxidative damage of lungs in lipopolysaccharide-induced ALI rats.
