Study on relationship between depression and quality of life for elderly population

  • Objective To analyze the relation of depression with quality of life among the elderly in the country of Hengyang in order to provide some scientific method for the health of the elderly.Methods Multi-stage sampling was used to survey the elderly in Hengyang by CES-D,MOS SF-36.Results The total occurrence rate of the depression was 32.68%,male 25.65%,female 44.35%,among them female occurrence rate was higher than male significantly(χ2=12.1,P<0.01).The older the age were,the higher the occurrence rate was.Among different groups(60~,70~,80~),the difference was significant(χ2=49.50,P<0.01).The rate of the persons who lose spouse was more higher than the one of that didn't significantly(χ2=4.81,P<0.05).The occurrence rate of the medicine fee the self-provided was higher than cure protect significantly(χ2=17.20,P<0.01).Depression was negatively correlated to the life quality of physiological function,social function,emotional function(P<0.05).Conclusion The total occurrence rate of the depression was 32168%.Depression was negatively correlated to the life quality of physiological function,social function and emotional function(P<0.05).
