Analysis on depression of patients with hypertension and influence factors in rural areas of Ningxia province

Objective To survey the prevalence rate of depression in pat ients with hypertension and analyze its influence factors in rural areas.Methods Zung Self-Depr ession Scale(SDS)was evaluated by our investigation team in 206 patients with hypertension.Results The prevalence rate of depressive symptoms was 69.4%.The prevalence rate of female depression(81.0%)was higher than that of male(54.4%),there was a significant difference(P<0.01).The prevalence rate of mild,moder ate and severe depressive symptoms in patients was 50.3%,42.7%,7.0% respectively.The Logistic regression analysis results showed:age((OR=1.050,95% CI 1.013~1.088),gender(OR=3.575,95% CI 1.918~6.663),mar riage(OR=1.679,95% CI 1.165~2.420),education level(OR=0.639,95% CI 0.454~0.899)and eco nomic inco me(OR=0.997,95% CI 01995~01 999)were associated with the depr essive symptoms.T he multivariate Logistic regression analysis results showed:gender(OR=2.742,95% CI 1.402~5.365),mar riage(OR=1.800,95% CI 1.075~3.014)and eco nomic income(OR=0.998,95% CI 0.996~1.0007)were associated with the depressive symptoms.Conclusion The prevalence rate of depression in patients with hy pertension in rural areas is higher.Female patients with,lower education level,lo wincome and losing spouse are vulnerable to depression.
