Effect of indoor air pollution by decoration on adult mental health

  • ObjectiveTo explore the effect of indoor air pollution by decoration on adult mental health.MethodsFormaldehyde and total volatile organic compounds(TVOC)in 224 houses decorated in 5 years nearly was detected.Ad adult family members were investig ated with SCL-90.All the data was analysed by SPSS.ResultsAfter detection,the under-standard rates of for maldehyde or TVOC was 46%.350 adult family members were investigated with SCL-90.The number of positive item was(19.57±13.32),which were lower than national norm.The average scores of 9 sub-scales were between 1.27~1.71.The sub-scale scores of the SCL-90 in summarization,paranoid ideation and anxiety were significantly higher than those for the national norm.The resutls form the investigation of 158 persons whose house pollutants were higher than national standard showed that ahead abnormal items were summarization,obsessive compulsive,depression and anxiety.The scores of sub-scales in those persons whose house pollutants concentration were higher than national standard were higher than those not.Scores in other 7 sub-scales except summarization and phobia were higher group of exceeding standard than group not exceeding.ConclusionIndoor air poulation by decoration may affect adult metal health.
