Relaitonship between parental participation in home smoking restrictions and secondary school students’ smoking behaviors

  • Objetive To explore the association between parental restrictions on family smoking and secondary school students's moking behaviors.Methods Two thousand and nineteen parents were inquired with self-administered question-naires about their socio-demographic characteristics,smoking behaviors,attitude toward tobacco control athome,and their children's relevant data.Multivariate analysis of covariance was conducted to analyze the effect of parent's participating in family smoking restrictions on adolescent's smoking behaviors.Results Two thousand and nineteen valid questionnaires were included in analysis.Prevalence of trying smoking,irregular smoking and regular smoking among the secondary school students was 5.60%(10.05%for male and 2.25% for female),4.41%(8.47% for male and 1.32% for female)and 1.19% (1.58% for male and 0.93% for female),respectively.Mothers had higher participation than fathers,and boys'parents had higher participation than girls',parents.Parental participation in home tobacco control negatively associated with adolescents smoking behaviors.Conclusion It might reduce adolescents's smoking in some extent that parents actively participate in home smoking restrictions.
