Investigation and analysis on nosocomial infection status of elder inpatient

  • Objective To investigate nosocomial infection of elder patients and other correlated factors.Methods Nosocomial infection rate and related factors were analyzed retrospectivly based on 4865 elder inpatients(≥60y)'s medical records from 1/1/2004 to 12/31/2005.Results Nosocomial infection rate of elder inpat ients over 60 years was 8.79%.There existed significant increasing trend of nosocomial infection rate with increasing of age and the day being in hospital,the older the age,the higher was the rate of nosocomial infection.And the longer the day being in hospital,the higher was the rate of nosocomial infection.Nosocomial infections occurred mainly in the respiratory tract(40.65%)and urinary tract(20.09%).The main pathogenic organisms of nosocomial infection were gram negative bacilli(62.75%).Conclusion Elder inpatients were easy getting nosocomial infections.Nosocomial infections were closely related to age,invasive operation,basal disease,the hospitalization period,etc.Prevention and proper treatment of nosocomial infection should be streng thened.
