Comparison of two instruments on measuring quality of life for patients with chronic diseases

Objective To compare SF-36 and QLICD-GM in measuring the quality of life for patients with chronic disease.Methods The quality of life for 607 cases with chronic diseases was measured by QLICD-GM and SF-36 simultaneously.The validity,reliability and reponsiveness of two instruments were analyzed.Results Both QLICD-GM and SF-36 were good on validity,reliability and responsiveness,but QLICD-GM was more sensitive to the change of the quality of life of patients than SF-36.Conclusion Both QLICD-GM and SF-36 can be used to measure quality of life for patients with chronic diseases,but QLICD-GM is more sensitive to the change of quality of life of the patients and more specific to the disease.
