Analysis on associated HIV risk behavior with influencing factors among injecting drug user

Objective To know HIV risk behavior level and association among injecting drug users in Urumqi.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among drug users in center for detoxification from September to October,2004.All participants underwent a structured interview including demographics,drug use characteristics and sexual behaviors before in 2 carceration.Results A total of 509 participants met inclusion criteria and signed informed consent.33.4% participants shared needles last 3 months.20.4% drug users had an IDU primary sex partner.Sexual intercourse with no condom with regular sex partner and casual sex partner was 85.8% and 69.8%,respectively,and it was 90.7% and 75.3% among Uigur drug users.Association with HIV risk behavior was analyzed using multiple regression model,having an IDU primary sex partner(β=0.80;P<0.000 1),having commercial sexual behavior last 6 month(β=0.32;P=0.013 5),Uigur people(β=0.34;P=0.001 9)and being married or cohabiting(β=-0.30;P=0.007 7)for men;and having an IDU primary sex partner(β=0.36;P=0.004 1),having commercial sexual behavior last 6 month(β=0.45;P=0.024 0)and age(β=-0.03;P=0.015 4)for female.Conclusion HIV risk behavior level was high among local drug users.Condom use was extremely low with primary sex partner,HIV will be transmitted by sexual behavior,and it should be focused.Enlarging target on drug use and high risk sexual behavior program and integrated with individual counseling in order to keep doing safe practice among drug users is necessary.
