Survey on social psychological status of families living with HIV/AIDS

  • Objective To investigate the social psychological status in high-prevalence rural families of HIV/AIDS and social support and to provide reference for the evaluation of assistance.Methods In some rural areas,155 households with HIV infections/AIDS patients were interviewed randomly and fill in questionnaires,including 256 HIV infections/AIDS patients.The survey involved characteristics in social demography,HIV/AIDS status,psychological status and social support.Results The interviewees were mainly former commercial blood donors accounting for 96.5% of total HIV infections/AIDS patients.Among them,55.9% believed that they were not in good mood during the half past year.83.2% answered that infection had no impact on feelings between the couple.More than 60% felt no difference from families and neighbors before and after the onset of AIDS.The government and social assistance was increasing annually.Conclusion The government's related policies and social support played an active role in reducing negative social psychological influence in rural high prevalence areas.
