Analysis on status and influcing factors of functional food consumption in Shandong province

  • Objective To study consumption status of functional food among consumers in Shandong province and associated factors.Methods Stratified random sampling and cluster random sampling methods were employed in this survey.586 consumers in four cities of Shandong province were investigated about functional food consumption.Results Television and broadcast were main sources to obtain functional food know ledge.Consumers purchased functional food mainly according to instructions and labels.The functions and dosages form consumers were inclined to buy were:supplementing nutrients,regulating immunity and improving memory;oral solutions,capsules and tea,respectively.Multiple factors analysis indicated that the consumption level of consumers with higher monthly income perfamily member on average,more credit in functional food,more knowledge about functional food was higher.Conclusion Monthly income perfamily member on average,credit in functional food and knowledge about functional food are important influencing factors of expenditure of consumers purchasing functional food.
