Effects of heredity on prevalence of children obesity and obesity-associated factors

  • ObjectiveTo discuss the effects of parents obesity on the prevalence of children obesity and the level of serum leptin,so luble leptin receptor(sOB-R)and insulin.MethodsThe 204 obese and normal children aged 12~14 years old were selected and the concentrations of serum leptin and insulin were measured respectively by the means of RIA and the concentrations of sOB-R in serum were measured by the means of ELISA.Height and weight of children's parents were measured.ResultsThe prevalence rate of children obesity was 66.18% when one or two of children's parents were obesity, and the prevalence rate of children obesity was 39.71% when both of children's parents was not obesity(P<0.01).Odds ratios of children obesity was 2.971 when children's parents were obesity, and the 95% CI fluctuate from 1.617 to 5.460(P<0.01).Apositive correlations between parents and children were shown in height, weig ht and BMI.The level of serum leptin and insulin were sig nificantly hig her in obesity childrenmale:(26.00±14.66)μg/L,(36.05±15.65)mU/L;female: (33.59±14.63)μg/L,(36.38±15.23)mU/L as compared with the control groupmale:(6.65±4.49)μg/L,(20.15±14.66)mU/L;female:(10.48±5.52)μg/L,(22.04±11.79)mU/L(P<0.01).The level of serum lept in,sOB-R and insulin were not significant difference between the group of one or two of children's parents being obesity and the group of both of children's parents being not obesity(P>0.05).ConclusionThe prevalence of children obesity could be affected by the obesity of parents; The level of serum leptin,sOB-Rand insulin of children is not related with parents obesity.
