Association between body composition index and physiological index in students aged 7~18

  • ObjectiveTo study the association between skinfold thickness, body composition and menarche, blood pressure and force vital capacity in childhood and adolescence.MethodsA total of 7 200 participants were recruited in Anhui province by cluster sampling in the national survey on Chinese students'physical fitness and health in 2005.The indexs of triceps, subscapular and abdominal skinfold thickness(SF),menarche, blood pressure and force vital capacity(FCV)were measured according to standard procedures, percent of body fat and body weight were calculated by using the Nagamine and Suzuki equation.ResultsIn the group aged 11~14 years,SFs,BMI,percent of body fat, lean body weight in girls with menarche were higher than that in girls without menarche. There was significant difference in SFs between girls with menarche and girls without menarche in two groups aged 11 years and 12 years, and there was also significant difference in BMI percent of body fat, lean body in groups aged 11,12,13,14 years.Linear regression analysis revealed that, after adjusting for age and sex, diastolic blood pressure and systolic blood pressure were significantly positively correlated with SFs,BMI,percent of body fat, while FCV/weight negatively associated with SFs,BMI,percent of body fat.ConclusionIn the obese children and adolescent, skinfold thickness increase indicated blood pressure elevating, the tendency of the occurrence to controlling body weight, lowering blood lipids and blood pressure could prevent premature, and improve the quality of life for children and adolescents.
