Use of HIV-testing services among pregnant women and its influencing factors

  • Objective To identify the factors and measure the use of HIV-testing sevices among pregnant women.Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted in two sites with relatively high prevalence of HIV in Xinjiang and Yunnan from June 2005 through July 2005.A subject pool of 774 pregnant women was investigated by questionnaires.which included survey item such as receipt of HIV-testing.Results The rate of HIV-testing among pregnant women was 29.33%,and 34.27% in Xinjiang site,21.94% in Yunnan site.HIV-testing rate of pregnant women in Yunnan site was lower than that of in Xinjiang site.Pregnant women whohad received pre-test counseling or whose husbands had a higher education were more likely to receive HIV testing.Conclusion The use of HIV-testing services among pregnant women is low in some regions with relatively high prevalence of HIV in Chiila.Health fadlities should not only promote pre-counsding for pregnant women.but also encourage their husbands to accompany the women to receive HIV-testhag.
