Analysis on parents’ discrimination attitudes towards AIDS orphans and vulnerable children.

  • Objective To find out affecting factors of parents' discrimination attitudes towards AIDS or phans and vul nerable children(OVC),and provide evidence for anti-discrimination interv ention.Methods 582 parents were investigated from primary schools,junior high schools and senior high schools in Heilongjiang and Henan provinces and Beijing city.Results There were no significant differences among parents in different provinces,among parents with roles and schoolings,and among parents with children' grades and gender(P>0.05).Their attitudes were positively correlated with scores of HIV/AIDS knowledge,right,policy and understanding of the relationship between HIV/AIDS and immoral behavior(P<0.05).Compared with fathers',attitudes of mothers were more negative,and attitudes of parents who considering HIV/AIDS was independent of moral,getting high score of HIV/AIDS non-transmitted route,right and policy were more positive showed by the result of multivariate linear regression.Conclusion Parents' lacking of knowledge,combining AIDS with immoral be havior,less awareness of right and policy and desire to protect their children may be the affecting factors of discrimination.
