Survey on community drug users infected with HIV and subsequent follow-up

Objective To investigate the prevalence of HIV and follow-up data among community drug users in Urumqi.Methods Individnal files for infectors of HIV were made,and the behaviors of sharing injection equipment,sexual activities,health status and interv ention measure were investigated.Results Among participants,HIV prevalence was 19.41%,subsequent follow-up rate was 72.71%,the needle sharing rate was 87.04%,the condom using rate was low (6.98%).The main methods of follow-up were giving the HIV infectors lots of concern and help and eliminated discrimination through project support.Conclusion The HIV prevalence was high,so it was necessary for HIV intectors to be followed-up regularly directing them to take part in related supporting program so as to reduce risk behaviors.
