Follow-up study on medical and health services utilization among typical community residents in Beijing

  • ObjectiveTo know the situation of medical and health services utilization among typical community residents in Beijing.MethodsIn 2004 and 2005,we chose 1765 permanent residents above 15 years old of 600 families inhabiting in typical communities since the year of 2000 as the baseline sample of the cohort study,and collected the residents.health knowledge,medical and health services utilization by Beijing Typical Community Resident Questionnaire designed by the researcher.In 2006 and 2007,we used the same questionnaire to carry on follow-up investigation.Resultsthe proportion of people who should but didn't see a doctor in past month in the baseline,2006,2007 was 36.44%,31.46%,and 25.70%,respectively,the differences between different times were significant(P<0.05).The top three reasons of did not visit a doctor were the "self-judgment of a light sickness","medical care costing too much","self-treatment".According to the two surveys,the medical units of regular attendance were community health service centers(stations).In 2007,the top three reasons of the participants when selecting a hospital to see a doctor were "near home and convenience"(61.62%),"with reimbursement of medical cost"(59.73%),"better medical technology and equipment"(21.13%).Medical costs(drugs,medical fees, inspection fees)decreased from the baseline,2006 to 2007,the differences was significant(P<0.05).ConclusionThe utilization and satisfaction of medical service is improved among community residents of Beijing.
