Relationship between maximal oxygen uptake and fitness index of cardiac function and physical work capacity of male college students

ObjectiveTo measure the maximal oxygen uptake(VO₂max),the fitness index of cardiac function and the physical work capacity(PWC₁₇₀)and analyze the change of VO₂max and related factors.MethodsThrough measuring the change of heart rate of the 322 male college students,two steps exercise testing method was used to calculate the value of fitness index of cardiac function and PWC₁₇₀ according to formulas.ResultsThe mean VO₂max of the 322 male college students was(43.41±3.68)ml·min^-1·kg^-1.The mean fitness index of cardiac function was(99.19±14.10)and the mean PWC₁₇₀ was(940.82±188.07)kg·m/min.Based on different groups of the VO₂max,we found that the fitness index of cardiac function and the PWC₁₇₀ rose with the increasing of the VO₂max.Moreover,the subjects were divided into two groups by VO₂max.One was<44 ml·min^-1·kg^-1 and the other was≥44 ml·min^-1·kg^-1.The fitness index of cardiac function and the PWC₁₇₀ were compared between the two groups,both of them had significant difference(P<0.01).ConclusionThe fitness index of cardiac function and the PWC₁₇₀ of male college students are closely related to the VO₂max.The fitness index of cardiac function and the PWC₁₇₀ rise with the increasing of the VO₂max.And therefore,it is of great significance to improve the college students'body constitution through increasing the level of VO₂max.
