Effects of social support and interpersonal trust on loneliness in impoverished students in normal university

  • Objective To explore the effects of social support and interpersonal trust on loneliness in impoverished students in normal university,and to provide substantial evidences for mental health education.Methods Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS),Inter personal Trust Scale(ITS),UCLAL oneliness Scale were used for examining 204 impover ished students and 196 non-impoverished students.Results Impoverished students.objective support was significantly higher than that of non-impoverished students,but significant difference in subjective support,support utilization,total scores of social support,interpersonal trust and loneliness was not found.There was no significant gender differ ence in social support,interpersonal trust and loneliness,but significant grades differ ences in impoverished students.support utilization,interpersonal trust and loneliness were found.Gradel 1 students had signifcantly higher support utilization level and lower loneliness level than grade 2 and grade 3.Grade 1 students had signifcantly higher interpersonal trust level than grade 3.There was no interaction of social support and interpersonal trust in loneliness.Impoverished students of different social support,different interpersonal trust level had significantly different loneliness.Regression analysis revealed that interpersonal trust,subjective support,support utilization were signicant negative predictor of loneliness.Conclusion Social support and interpersonal trusthav e significant effects on loneliness in impoverished students in normal university.
