Survey on reproductive health khowledge among migrants in Kunming city

Objective To understand the status of reproductive health know ledge among migrants in order to provide feasible recommendations for reproductive health education in migrants.Methods By adopting multiple stage random sampling,1 028 migrants were surveyed with questionnaire.Results The surveyed population was composed of 133 married men (12.9%),86 unmar ried men(8.4%),687 mar ried women(66.8%)and 122 unmarried women(11.9%).The ages were from 18 to 35 and most of them(75.4%)only received elementary or secondary education.Compared to the female,male respondents had less know ledge about family planning(P<0.01),but male respondents had more knowledge about sexual transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS(P<0.01).The total score of reproductive health know ledge among migrants who left their hometo wns between a half year to 4 years ago was lower than other groups of migrants.Married respondents had more reproductive health knowledge than unmarried people(P<0.01).The total score in the group of migr ants who were professionals orofficials was higher than other groups of migrants.Higher educational level and higher income level were positiv ely associated with higher knowledge scores.Conclusion Unmarried,lower educated,non-professional workers and lower in-come migrants as well as migrants leaving their hometowns for a short time have less reproductive health know ledge.According to different knowledge levels of migrants,the health education should be designed specifically.
