Investigation on knowledge related to snoring among people in Guangxi, China

Objective To study knowledge related to snoring among people in Guangxi.Methods A total of 11 163 persons aged≥14 years old in Guangxi(Guinan,Guizhong and Guibei)were surveyed from Jan.2003 to Mar.2005.A questionnaire was administered to collect the infor mation.Results The 11 163 persons from 2 862 families were surveyed.20% of the subjects thought snoring was a kind of disease.14.2% of persons thought snoring was a kind of disease and should be treated.The knowledg rate on snoring of the subjects from the city was higher than that of from the rural with significant difference(χ²=2 324.689,P=0.000).In the snoring people,31.9% of persons thoungt snoring was a kind of disease and 20.3% of persons thought snoring should betreated.In the non-snor ing persons,15.6% of people thoungt snoring was a kind of disease and 11.9% thought it should betreated with significant difference(χ²=404.576,P=0.000).The difference was significant among subjects with various jobs(χ²=2 521.505,P=0.000),and different degrees of education(χ²=1486.435,P=0.000).Mean while,The difference was significant among subjects of different ages(χ²=23.592,P=0.000).Conclusion The know ledge of snoring of people fromurban and rural areas is different.The age,occupation,education are related to knowledge of snoring.
