Abstract
Objective To study the effect of different levels of calorie restriction on blood glucose and lipids in rats. Methods Thirty-six male rats housed individualy were randomly divided into ad libitum group, calorie restriction group 1 and calorie restriction group 2.One group were fed with basic diet and the other two with 80% and 60% energy of AL-fedgroup respectively for 12 weeks, then changes of weight, blood glucose and lipids were tested. Results The body weight, visceral fat accumulation, body fat percent, level of HDL-C and T Gof calorie restriction group were significantly differenct from that of ad libitum group except for blood glucose. The level of TC in calorie restriction group 2 was not significantly higher than that of control group until the end of the test. Conclusion Calorie restriction can enhance the level of HDL-C,decrease TG and have no significant effect on the blood glucose. The level of TC is increased when the rats have less calorie intake at some point.
