Prevalence survey for condom use among HIV/AIDS patients in high-incidence rural areas of Henan province

Objective To understand the status of condom use among HIV/AIDS patients and provide fundamental information for carrying out HIV/AIDS education and prevention.Methods Survey the condom use by means of interview and analyze the factors influencing the use of condom in HIV/AIDS patients.Data was processed with SPSS 12.0.Results The condom use rate among HIV/AIDS patients was higher than that of comparable group(χ²=220.62,P<0.05).HIV/AIDS patients using condom in every sexual activity had more awareness of prevention of AIDS with condom use than HIV/AIDS patients not using condom each time.The difference was statistically significant.Multifactor Logistic analyses showed several factors including marriage(OR=1.504;95% CI=1.128～2.007),education level(OR=6.234;95% CI=3.860～ 10.069),physical status(OR=0.744;95% CI=0.615～0.900),accepting the health education(OR=1.461;95% CI=11107～11927),age(OR=01337;95% CI=01244～01465).Conclusion Family plan work should be closely linked with the prevention of HIV/AIDS.Increasing the awareness of disease among HIV/AIDS patients through strengthening health education will raise the condom use rate.Marital status,age,education level and physical status have impact on the use of condom among the patients.
