Abstract
Objective To understand STD and HIV infection status and trends among female sex workers(FSWs)in Karamay from 2004 to 2008,and provide materials for AIDS prevention measure and appraisal of in tervention. Methods Cross-sectional behavioral and serological sentinel surveys were repeatedly conducted among FSWs.Results Five cases were found anti-HIV positive in 1856 FSWs for 5 years. The HIV infection rate was 0.27%.The rate of syphlisinfection was 1.29%(24 cases). The condom-using rate of the last month with male sex consumers was increasedy early(χ2=94.38,P<0.01),but the rate of condom use with regular sexual partners was low,and they early difference was nostatisti call signficnce(χ2=1.46,P>0.01).Conclusion Infec tion rate of HIV and syphlis was relatively low among FSWs in Karamay. But the FSWs were likely to play agreater role as "ridge" in transmitting HIV,so health education and behavior alintervention should be reinforced among FSW sin Karamay.
