Association between hypertension and dietary patternsd in residents of Jiangyin city

  • Objective To investigate the association between hypertension and dietary patterns. Methods Inhabits' daily food intake was investigated by food-frequency questionnaire.Factor analysis was used to identify food patterns based on the food-frequency questionnaire.Logistic regression was used to analyse the relation between food patterns and hypertension. Results There were 1 248 inhabitants took part in the investigation. The prevalence rate of hypertension in the subjects was 34.5%.The prevalence rate of hypertension of male and female was 36.6% and 32.7%,respectively.Five dietary patterns were identified by factor analysis;and "sweet food" pattern,"beverage" pattern,"healthy" pattern,"drinking" pattern were associated with hypertension by single factor analysis. The "drinking" pattern was associated with a higher risk of hypertension of men by multiple logistic regression.Compared with the lowest quartile(Q1)of the "drinking" pattern, the highest quartile(Q4)had higher risks of hypertension for men(OR=1.91,95%CI=1.06-3.46).Conclusion Dietary patterns were associated with hypertension.Limitation of drinking and adoption of healthy dietary pattern may play important roles in the prevention of hypertension.
