Antioxidant effects of betulin on alcoholic liver disease in rats

Objective To study the antioxidant effects of betulin on alcoholic liver disease in rats.Methods Rats were randomly divided into 6 groups:normal group,low dose group,middle dose group,high dose group,positive control group and model group.The alcoholic liver disease model of rats was made by feeding alcohol.The rats inpositive control group were administered with Sli; the rats in the low dose,middle dose and high dose groups were administered with betulin.The level of SOD,GAH-PX,GST,G SH and MDA in liver tissue were measured.HE staining was used to observe the pathological changes of liver.Results Compared with the rats in model group,betulin significantly increased the SOD,GSHPX,GST and the GSH level in liver tissue and obviously decreased the MDA content(P<0.05).The hepatic injuries of rats in the high dose betulin group were recovered obviously.Conclusion Betulin has obviously protective effects on alcoholic liver injury in rats.The mechanism may be the induced decrease of lipid peroxide.
