Effects of styela clava extraction on serum endothelin-1 in diabetic rats

ObjectiveTo explore the therapeutic effects of styela clava extraction on diabetes andits mechanism.MethodsThe Wistar rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes were treated with styela clava extraction and serum glucose and endothelin-1(ET-)of the rats were detected.ResultsThe higher blood glucose(>8.1mmol/L)was observedin the rats one week after the abdomen injection of streptozotocin.After 4 weeks treatment of streptozotocin,the serum glucose of the rats in experimental group was significantly higher than that of negative control group(P<0.01).The lower serum glucose than that of diabetic control group was observed in styela clava treatment group(P<0.01)and the lower ET-1 than that of normal control was observed in diabetic rats(P<0.01).The serum ET-1 of styela clava treatment group was significantly lower than that of diabetic control group(P<0.01).ConclusionThe styela clava extraction decreases serum glucose andinhibits the increase of ET-1 in streptozotocin-induced diabeticrats.
