Prevalence of self-reported symptoms of reproductive tract infection among female sex workers in Beijing

  • Objective To know the prevalence rate of self-reported symptom s of reproductive tract infection and its associated factors for assessing the reproductive health needs in female sex workers.Methods Guided by "National HIV Comprehensive Surveillance Guideline" and with stratified sampling,annual questionnaire survey was conducted among female sex workers in entertainment establishments in Beijing from 2006 to 2008.Results The yearly prevalence rate of self-reported symptoms of reproductive tract infection was 46.9%,37.3%,and 37.1%,respectively among the female sex workers The factors associated with the self-reported symptoms included age of first commereial sex(OR=0.97),consistent condomuse with commereial sexual partners in the lastmonth(OR=0.77),having sex with more than 7 clients in the past week(OR=1.19),occasional condom use with regular sexual partners in the lastmonth(OR=1.23),no condom use with regular sexual partners in the lastmonth(OR=1.95),vaginal douching(OR=1.75),and cohabitation(OR=1.35).Conclusion The female sex workers have high prevalence rate of reproductive tract infection and need health care services for the contml of the infections.
