Prevalence rate of type 2 diabetes in community residents and its related factors： a cross-sectional study

Objective To study the prevalence rate of type 2 diabetes and related factors inresidents aged more than 50 years in a community in Tianjin,and to provide scientific evidence for type 2 diabetes prevention.Methods A total of 3 572 residents over 50 years old from a commumity in Tianjin were investigated with questionnaire,physical examination and blood gluco setesting.Related factors of type 2 diabetes were analyzed with logistic regression.Results The prevalence rate of type 2 diabetes was 17.6%.The gender specific rates were 16.8%in males and 18.3% in females,respectively,with out significant dlifference(χ²=1.346,P>0.05).The prevalence rates of type 2 diabetes were significantly different among groups with different age(χ²=20.811,P<0.01).The rates were increased with age,and the prevalence rate of adults over 70 years old was 20.2%.The results of multivariate logistic regression indicated that age,body mass index,waist circum ference,family history of diabetes and hype rtension were associated with high risk of type 2 diabetes.Conclusion The prevalence rate of type 2 diabetes was high in the study population.It is important to carry out comprehensive preventive measures to control diabetes.
