Prevalence of dental caries among primary and secondary school students in Shenyang city

Objective To study the prevalence of dental caries among primary and secondary school students in Shenyang city and to provide scientific guidance for prevention and control of dental caries.Methods Hea lthy m on ito ring data of 6 500 primary and secondary school students in 2005 were collected and analyzed.Results The preva leace of deciduous caries were 41.1%,36.2%,and 4.7%,respectively,for students at age of 7,9 and 12 years.The prevaleace of permanent dental decaying was 14.7%,19.6%,and 18.9% for students at age of 12,14 and 17 years,respectively.The prevalence of permanent dental missing and filling of the girls(3.3%,27.8%)was higher than that of boys(1.8%,21.4%,P<0.05 and P<0.01).The prevalence of permanent dental decaying and missing among village students(14.4%,3.9%)was higher than that of city students(12.3%,1.8%,P<0.05 and P<0.01).The prevalence of permanent dental filling of city students(31.1%)was higher than that of rural students(10.7%,P<0.01).Conclusion Oralcavity hygiene of primary and secondary school students should be stressed.
