Neonatal hearing screening in Shenzhen city

  • Objective To study neonatal hearing screening status and risk factor of congenital hearing loss in Shenzhen city.Methods The data of hearing screening among 13 652 newborn infants during 2004-2008 was analyzed.Results The neonates who passed in the first screening were 87.7%(11.953/13.652)and the passed rate of second screening was 83.6%(847/1 013).The neonates who took the first screening with in 3 days after the birth were 82%(1 888/2 305),lower than that of at 1 month old(94%,1 266/1 348,P<0.001).The hyperbilirubinemia,congenital externalear deformity,threatened abortion history were risk factors associated with neonatal hearing loss.Conclusion Routine hearing screening is necessary.The incidence of congenital hearing loss is higher in neonatal infants with high-risk factors.
