Cut injury among children in Jiangxi province

  • Objective To describe the characteristics of cut injury among children in Jiangxi province for prevention and intervention of the injury.Methods Amultistage stratified random cluster sampling was adopted to select 98335 children aged 0-17 years.The information were collected with face-to-face interview.Results The incidence rate of cut injury among the children was 0.40%.Cut was the fourth leading cause of nonfatal injuries among the children and the proportion was 6.99%.There was a significant difference in the occurrence of cut between male and female.The incidence was the highest among the children at age of 10-14(0.46%),and secondly higher among children of 5-9 years(0.41%).32.13% of the objects involved in the cut injuries were waste articles and 23.65% were domestec appliance.The common location of cut injury was at home(46.27%)and school(13.62%).69.41% of cutting objects could be got by the children easily.Conclusion The children aged 5-14 years are at high risk of cut injury.We should take effective measures to prevent cutinjury.
