Prevalence of non-communicable chronic diseases in urban residents of Nanchang, China

  • Objective To understand the situation of non-communicable chronic diseases in urban residents of Nanchang,and to research factors affecting chronic diseases for health promotion.Methods Stratified cluster random sampling was adopted to choose a total of 1 491 permanent residents aged above 18 years for a face-to-face interview and measurments of blood pressure,body height and weight.Results The overall chronic disease prevalence rate was 23.81% and the standardized rate was 16.42%.The top three chronic diseases were hypertension(11.07%),hyperlipidemia(3.15%)and diabetes(2.35%).Among the subjects,the rate of drinking wine or alcohol once a week was 20.25%;the overweight rate was 25.02%;the rate of without health check up in the recent five years was 57.14%.Based on the results of logistic regression,drinking wine or alcohol,overweight were risk factors associated with chronic diseases.Conclusion Although the chronic disease prevalence rates are at commonlevel,the risk factors are at high level.
