Relationship between personality and mental health among college students with left-behind experience

  • ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between personality and mental health among college students with left-bebind experience.MethodsEysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ)and Self-Report Symptom Check list-90(SCL-90)were adopted in the research with a random sampling of 432 college students of first year with left-behind experience and 461 students without left-bebind experience from three general colleges in Jiangxi province.ResultsThe detection rate of psychological symptoms was 26.6% among the students with left-behind experience and among the students without left-behind experience the detection rate was 23.2%.Compared with students without left-bdehind experience,the students with the experience showed higher scores of interpersonal sensitivity(P<0.05),psychoticism(P<0.05),and lower score of the internal and external(P<0.01).The scores of interpersonal sensitivity,depression,and terror of the female were higher than that of the male among the stndents with left-behind experience.There was a correlation between personality and mental heath score.The contribution of the internal and exeternal and neuroticism to SCL-90 total score was 18% among the students with left-behind experience.ConclusionThe emotional in stability of college students with left-behind experience needs to be intervened to improve their mental health.
