Relationship between self-rated health, depression and housebound status in the elderly

  • ObjectiveTo study the relationship between self-rated health,depression and housebound status in elderly population.MethodsThe residents≥60 years old from five comm unities were selected in Tangshan city,Hebei province.The unified scale was used.The subjects were inve stig ated with face-to-face interview.SPSS 13.0 software package was used for statistic analysis.ResultsThe housebound rate was 18.8% among 1 475 subjects.The incidence rate of housebound in the female was significantly higher than that of the male.The housebound rate was increased with the increment of age (P<0.01).The subjects without spouse had a higher risk of suffering from housebound than those of with spouse(P<0.01).The multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that age,female,lack of exercise were independent risk factors for house-bound.ConclusionPoor self-rated health,depression is associated with the prevalence of housebound among the elderly.
