Effects of dietary restriction on behavior and antioxidation in mice

  • Objective To explore the effects of different dietary restriction level on behavior and antioxidation in mice. Methods Totally 120 ICR mice were randomly divided into free diet group and 20%,40%,and 60% diet restriction groups(DR).Twenty five days late, rhypoxia to lerance was a ssessed.Thirty-nine days later, the Y maze, water maze, organ coefficient, superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity and malonaldehyde(MDA)content were measured. Results In Y maze test,40% DR group had the memory performance of 14.40±2.68 tmies, which were significantly higher than that of the free diet group(P<0.05).In water mazetest,40% DR did the visit of 1.5±0.5 tmies, experienced distance of 0.49±0.32 meter with the latency of 20.36±9.13 seconds. The brain coefficient of 60% DR group(1.51±0.19%)was significantly higher than that of the free diet group(1.12±0.09%,P<0.01).Spleen organ coefficient, hypothy roid coefficient and the rena lMDA content of restricted diet groups were decreased. The hypoxia tolerance in mice was proportional with the restriction levels, and the hypoxia to lerance in female mice was higher than that of in the males. Conclusion Proper dietary restriction improves the adaptive capability and the ability of antioxidation in mice.
