Mental health status and its influence factors among middle and elder age women in China

  • Objective To know the mental health status and its influence factors among middle and elder age women in Weihai city.Methods The subjects were randomly chosen with cluster-stratified sampling method and surveyed with self-made questionnaire and Kessler 10 rating scale.SPSS 13.0 software was used to analyze the data.Results Totally 3 194 ind ividuals aged 45-65 were studied.The mean score of Kessler 10 was 13.76±5.93 for all the individuals.Totally 2 380 women(74.5%)had a Kessler 10 score of 10-15;457(14.3%)had a Kessler 10 score of 16-21;246(7.7%) had a Kessler 10 score of 22-29;111(3.5%)had a Kessler 10 score of 30-50.A bout 11.2% of them were likely to have mental disorder.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the widowed,wtih the disease in previous two weeks,having chronic disease with in a half of the year,self-reported life monotony,self-perceived high pressure,and insomnia were risk factors of a higher Kessler 10 score.Conclusion More attention should be paid to mental health status of middle and elder age women.Marriage status,physical condition and self-reported mental health status are relevant factors to mental health of the middle and elder age women.
