Adult attachment and internet dependence in college students

Abstract
ObjectiveTo study adult attachment,internet dependence and their relationship in college students.MethodsTotally 600 students selected with cluster sampling from colleges in Zhejiang province were interviewed using Chinese Internet Addiction Scale's Revision(CIAS-R)and Experience of Close Relationship(ECR).ResultsThe scores of attachment avoidence and attachment anxiety in the students were 3.40±0.82 and 3.77±0.85.Of all the students,there were 353(64.5%)nomal internet users,58(28.9%)internet dependence,and 36(6.6%)internet addiction.The average scores of attachment avoidence,time management,and internet dependence were 3.30±0.81,8.46±2.52,and 43.03±8.73 for the male students and 3.48±0.81,7.71±2.14,and 41.63±7.25 for the female students,respectively,with significant difference between different gender(P<0.05 for all).There was a positive correlation between adult attachment and internet dependence.ConclusionThe internet addictionin is prevalent among college students.The attachment anxiety is a predictor of internet dependence.
