Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the inhibitive effect of ajoene on adenosine diphosphate(ADP)-induced platelet aggregation in rabbits.MethodsADP and thrombase were used to induce platelet aggregation and platelet function was evaluated by turbidimetry to observe the effect of ajoene on platelet aggregation in vitro.ResultsAjoene of high and medium dosage decreased maximum platelet aggreation(P<0.01)and increased platelet aggregation inhibitive rate(AIR)by 57% and 70% (P<0.01)in rabbits treated with ADP.Ajoene of high, medium and low dosage decreased maximum platelet aggregation rate(P<0.01)and increased AIR by 49%,81%,and 87% in rabbits treated with thrombase. The inhibitive effect was enhanced by increased dose of ajoene.ConclusionAjoene can obviously inhibit platelet aggregation induced by ADP and thrombase in rabbits.
