  • ObjectiveTo assess the epidemic characteristics of hypertension among local residents of Yi and Han nationality in Mianning county of Liangshan state, and to provide scientific basis for prevention of hypertension among Yi nationality population.MethodsAn investigation on hypertension prevalence with stratified cluster random sampling was carried out among 2 096 residents(1 270 Han nationality and 677 Yi nationality)in ten small towns of Mianning county.ResultsThe prevalence rate of hypertension for local residents of Yi nationality was 14.62% with a standatdized prevalence rate of 15.29%;the systolic blood pressure(SBP)on average was 119.99±14.55 mmHg;the average diastolic blood pressure(DBP)was 74.06±8.49 mmHg.The prevalence rate of hypertension in residents of Han nationality was 14.19% with a standardized prevalence rate of 15.60%;the average SBP was 118.06±15.91 mmHg and the DBP was 74.39±9.70 mmHg.The difference in hypertension prevalence between the two groups was not statistically significant (P>0.05).However,the difference between the males and females in the same group was statistical significant(P<0.01).With the age increasing, the prevalence rate of hypertension was obviously increased. The prevalence rate of hypertension was also closely related with the education level and the labor intensity.ConclusionThe results indicate that the difference in hypertension prevalence is not statistically significant between Yi nationality and Han nationlity in Mianning county.
