Medical expenditure and related factors among inpatients with hypertension

  • ObjectiveTo explore characteristics of medicine treatment and related factors of medical expenditure of inpatients with hypertension in urban communities and to provide suggestions for community health managemernt and medical insurance of patients with hypertension.MethodsThe retrospective study invloved 1 217 cases from 4 community health centers in two advanced large cities.The data of hypertension patients were obtained from local social security center,and analyzed with SPSS 12.0.Descriptive analysis,Chi-square test and multivariate linear regression analysis were used.ResultsOf all inpatents,80% were treated with about 100 kinds of medicine and the cost of the treatment with the 100 medicines accounted for 50% of all medicine cost.The average hospitalization cost of the inpatients was 16 634 RMB yuan,of which the diagnosis and treatment accouned for 63.0% and the medicine costs accounted for 37.0%.The average cost of per inptient for medicine was 35.1 RMB yuan.Insurers paid about 91.3% of the premiun of medicine cost for the inpatients.Univariate regression analysis showed that the course of the disease,the type of high blood pressure,the number of complications,and the type of standard management had significant effect on the total treatment cost.Multivaritae linear regression analysis showed that the course of the disease and the type of high blood pressure had significant effcet on the expense of hypertesion treatment.ConclusionThe types of medicine for hyrertention treatment are concentrated relatively in large cities, and the expense of the medicine is low.The course of the disease and the type of high blood pressure have significant effcet on the expense of hypertesion treatment.
