Prevalence and risk factors of ischemic stroke in Qingdao area

ObjectiveTo explore the prevalence and risk factors of ischemic stroke in Qingdao and to provide scientific evidence for intervention planning and clinical prevention program.MethodsA retrospective case-control study was conducted.From September 2007 to September 2009,two hundred and sixty five ischemic stroke patients(40-70 years old) first admitted in Qingdao Municipal Hospital were selected as case group;other 265 normal subjects(40-70 years old)who accepted physical examination in Physical Examination Center of Qingdao Municipal Hospital were randomly selected as control group.The information on hypertension,cardiopathy,diabetes,hyperlipidemia,hyperuricemia,overweight,smoking, and alcohol drinking were investigated and recorded.The data were analyzed with SPSS 13.0.ResultsExposure rates of all 8 risk factors in case group were obviously higher than those of control group(odds ratio=1.428,7.422,5.055,4.886, 3.139,1.487,3.274,and 1.800;P<0.05 for all).The contents of total cholesterol,triglyceride and serum uric acid in case group were also higher than those in the control group(P<0.01).The ratio of heavy smokers in case group was higher than that of control group(P<0.01).ConclusionThe prevalences of risk factors of ischemia stroke are high among the population of Qingdao area.
