Abstract
ObjectiveTo explore the prevalence and risk factors of metabolic syndrome among the police in Tianjin city.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted among 2008 police taking physical examination in Tianjin Police Hospital. The prevalence and age-standardized prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MS)were estimated.Univariate and multivariate logistic stepwise regressions were used to identify risk factors of MS.ResultsThere were 275 MS patients in the police. The prevalence and age-standardized prevalence of MS in the police were 13.7% (14.1% in males,2.7% in females)and 12.3% (12.6% in males,3.2% in females). The multivariate logistic stepwise regression analysis showed that gender(odds ratioOR=7.483,95% confidence intervalCI=1.023-54.749),age(OR=1.037,95%CI=1.021-1.052),snoring in sleeping(OR=1.880,95%CI=1.414-2.500),and stress event occurring before the disease(OR=2.175,95%CI=1.576-3.002)could significantly increase the risk of the disease.ConclusionPolice is a high-risk group for MS.Gender, age, snoring in sleeping, and stress event occurring before the disease could significantly increase the risk of the disease.
