Opportunistic infection among individuals infected with HIV-1 in a county of Henan province

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the situation of CD4+T,virus load and opportunistic infection in HIV-1/HCV coinfection in Henan province.MethodsA cross-sectional study was carried out to obtain the baseline data of 383 individuals who were former blood donor and with HIV-1 infection.Virus load,CD4+T,liver function, and opportunistic infection were tested and investigated after one-year treament.ResultsTotally 273 individuals(71.3%)were coinfected with hepatitis C virus(HCV)in the patients. The rank order for the ratio of opportunistic infection in baseline data in 2007 was pulmonary infection(27.2%),fever(23.4%),herpes zoster(13.7%),and diarrhea(9.6%)and that of in follow-up data in 2008 was pulmonary infection(21.9%),fever(16.0%),diarrhea(14.9%),and herpes zoster(9.7%).The mean contents of alanine aminotransferase and gamma-glutamyl transferase were higher than the normal reference range significantly.ConclusionThere are coinfection of HCV among former blood donors with HIV-1 infection and the incidence of opportunistic infection is negatively correlated with the level of CD4+T,but not correlated with the change of virus load.
