Short-term effects of resveratrol on lipid metabolism in mice with high-fat diet

  • ObjectiveTo examine the effects of resveratrol on lipid metabolism in male mice fed with high-fat diet.MethodsFifty Kunming male mice were randomly divided into control group,high-fatty model group, high, middle and low dose resveratrol groups.Apart from the rats in the control group, the other mice were fed with high-fat diet for 4 weeks. Then the mice were given different interventions. The mice of resveratrol groups were given with resveratrol gavage at the dose of 5,22,and 45 mg/kg·bw/d with 0.5% sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. After the treatment of 6 weeks, the levels of total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)were measured.ResultsFor the mice in middle-dose resveratrol group, the levels of TC,TG and LDL-C were 3.174±0.687,0.884±0.408,1.762±0.877 mmol/L,and the level of TC showed a decreasing tendency with lower levels of TG and LDL-C compared to those of the control(P<0.05).In addition, resveratrol reduced liver steatosis of the mice.ConclusionResveratrol could control the lipid metabolism of hypercholesterolemic mice.
