Abstract
ObjectiveTo study the effects of nifedipine on nutritional metabolism of iron overload rats.MethodsThirty male SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups according to their weight(control, iron overload and nifedipine group).Rats in nifedipine group were treated with peritoneal injection of nifedipine for 7 days continuously. The levels of blood lipid, lipid peroxidation indexes, activities of antioxidant enzymes and contents of serum Fe,ferritin,VE,Fe,Se,and Ca were determined.ResultsThe total cholesterol and low-density lipopotein in rats of nifedipine group were 1.65 and 0.96 mmol/L,and significantly lower than those of rats of iron overload(P<0.05).And at the same time, the contents of serum Fe and ferritin were 1.321±0.148 and 1.386±0.162 mg/L,and significantly lower than those of to the iron overload group. But the contents of serum Se in rats of nifedipine group was 0.087±0.017 mg/L and significantly higher than that of the iron overload group.ConclusionNifedipine can alter the nutritional metabolism and decrease the impact of iron overload in rats.
