Infection route in 1129 patients with chronic hepatitis C

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the route of infection in the patients with chronic hepatitis C(CHC)and to provide reference for the prevention of CHC in China.MethodsThe information on age,gender,route of infection of the patients were collected with a questionnaire and analyzed.ResultsAmong the 1 129 patients with CHC,61.2% were infected though blood transfusion and blood product;32.8% were with unknown infection route;3.9% were drug abuserl;1.6% had close contact with patients of hepatitis C,and 0.5% had unsafe sexual behavior.There were statistical differences in the route of infection between different gender,age group,and different residential area(χ2=36.695,98.281,34.594;P<0.01 for all).ConclusionBlood and blood products are the main transmission way of CHC.There are significant differences in the infection route between different gender,different age and different living area.
